Does the Supercommittee have to pay taxes?

November 30 is … Stay At Home Because You’re Well Day

Just take the day off although we have several holidays on the horizon. Perhaps taking today off could be to prepare for the next few days off.

Last week the ‘Supercommittee’ agreed on one thing. They greed they could not agree. All of the members had an office in the same building, many just across the hall from one another yet the ‘Super committee’ did not meet in November.

One other thing they all agreed on, at least the members of the Congressional Supercommittee finally came to an agreement on something: That they wouldn’t be able to reach an agreement. In a joint statement, co-chairs Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) told the press that, while they couldn’t bridge their ideological divide, they agreed something clearly needed to be done about the economy. But all was not lost: The 12 members increased their average daily fundraising, money that often comes from powerful lobbyists, by $2,720 per person. In other words, while they couldn’t agree on budget cuts, they unanimously supported accepting checks from groups that would have been affected by the cuts.

Herman Cain is starting to see the writing on the wall. The quicker he gets close enough to read what it says, the better the Republican Party and his wife and family will be.

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain told his staff Tuesday morning that he is reassessing his candidacy and will make the decision whether to remain in the race in “the next several days.”

Cain’s campaign has been plagued by sexual harassment allegations, and Monday a woman came forward alleging a 13-year affair with the candidate.

The Des Moines Register has more quotes from the Tuesday morning conference call. Cain reportedly told about 90 staff that the latest affair story might create “too much of a cloud” around his campaign.

“If a decision is made, different than we should plow ahead, you all will be the first to know,” he said. “Now with this latest one we have to do an assessment as to whether or not this is going to create too much of a cloud in some peoples’ minds as to whether or not they should support us going forward.”

He went on to deny the woman’s story as he did Monday when it broke. NRO has the full transcript of the five-minute call.

Cain’s Iowa campaign chairman, Steve Grubbs, told the AP that the allegations have hurt Cain’s fundraising and taken a toll on his family. Still, Cain will continue his campaign for now and deliver a foreign policy speech in Michigan on Tuesday.

Top Republicans have called for Cain to drop out of the race, as HuffPost’s Sam Stein reported:

“Cain is irrelevant, and the quicker he gets out of the race the better it will be,” said Ed Rollins, a longtime Republican strategist. “My fear is that he marches to the beat of his own drum and he may try to drag it on and deny and deny and deny. And my sense is that will likely be the pattern here. But there is no way he can be the nominee of our party. The quicker he gets out, the better for him and for us.”

Cain indicated Monday that he intended to remain in the race as long as he had the support of his wife, Gloria.

Tuesday the The Draft Herman Cain PAC, the Super PAC backing the candidate, abandoned him and changed its name to Beat Obama PAC.

Ginger White, the Atlanta businesswoman who claims she had a 13-year consensual relationship with Cain, has described the alleged affair as “very inappropriate,” “fun” and “exciting

November 29 is … Square Dance Day

Grab your partner, dose doe; swing her all around, dose doe!

I wrote about the changes the Roman Catholic Church made in the 1960s as a result of the Second Vatican Council. They have not worked well. Several months ago I wrote about changes coming to the Mass that were to take effect in November. Well, they are here.

English-speaking Roman Catholics who haven’t been paying close attention to their church bulletins might notice something a little different during services this Sunday. For decades at the very beginning of Mass, the priest has greeted the congregation by saying “The Lord be with you” and congregants responded: “And also with you.” Starting this Saturday and Sunday in the English-speaking world, the response will be: “And with your spirit.”

And that’s not all: Familiar prayers, both spoken and chanted, have changed and new words like “consubstantial” and “incarnate” now appear. In the Nicene Creed, the affirmation “We believe” has been replaced with “I believe.”

The changes are the result of a years-long process to produce an English translation that is closer to the original Latin of the Roman Missal, which the text of prayers and instructions for celebrating Mass. It’s the most significant change to the regular worship for Anglophone believers since the upheavals that followed the Second Vatican Council in the 1960s.

“It’s human nature that we’re resistant to change,” said Monsignor Michael Clay, pastor of St. Ann Catholic Church in Clayton, about 40 miles southeast of Raleigh. “I’m old enough to remember when we went from Latin to English, and that was just a huge change.” Clay likes the new translation, finding it closer to the Latin text that is still the church’s official language. But some priests and parishioners have been less enthusiastic, criticizing the new version as too ponderous or distant, and in some cases circulating petitions asking for a delay in introducing the new missal. The Vatican never admits it is wrong although they have admitted to being short on right once in a while.

The roots of the new translation go back to that epochal council held at the Vatican in the 1960s, which allowed Mass in languages other than Latin. An English-language missal was produced by 1973, but that was intended to be temporary while improvements were made.

In 2001, the Vatican office that oversees worship issued a directive requiring translation of the English missal that would be closer to the Latin rather than to more familiar vernacular speech. Numerous revisions and bishops’ meetings eventually produced agreement on the translation being used Sunday.

Do you think the fact every Catholic and every Church will have to purchase new missals to replace the now outdated books. I am sure the Vatican Press publishes the new books and gets a piece of the action from other publishers interested in selling to the English speaking Catholics around the world.

The Roman Catholic Church should consider making going to Mass enjoyable and easier, not work and embarrassing.

$50 million can be annoying!

In Uncategorized on November 28, 2011 at 6:03 AM

BRUCE A. BRENNAN BLOG FROM THE WORLD AND MY MIND

The news as I see it and the views as I want them.

November 28 is … Make Your Own Head Day

Why leave the house?

The burdens of having 50 million dollars in the bank can be annoying. After reading this, answer the question; what are banks for?

Bank of New York Mellon Corp, which was derided for a plan to charge some of its large corporate and investment management clients for holding their deposits, appears to have flinched.

The bank has not assessed a penny since warning clients about the possible deposit fee in early August, officials told Reuters, although it remains burdened by cash that it cannot profitably redeploy at rock-bottom interest rates. Not a bad burden to go through life with. Even if you screw up, the United States government will not let you fail, they will just tell you to take a smaller bonus this year but will not force the issue.

The fee of 0.13 percent was to have taken effect on August 8 for accounts with more than $50 million that had soared well above their monthly averages as clients fled short-term investments for the safety of U.S. banks. “My guess is that the backlash was pretty stringent and they decided not to do it,” said William Gerber, chief financial officer of TD Ameritrade Holding Corp, a cash-management client of Bank of New York. “I can see their problem but I’m not that empathetic considering all the fees we’ve been waiving.”

He was referring to hundreds of millions of dollars of money-market mutual fund fees that financial companies have waived over the past two years lest investors realize negative returns on their fund holdings. Unlike Bank of America, which was shamed into withdrawing a plan to charge its customers $5 for debit card transactions after a torrent of articles ridiculing the proposal, Bank of New York said that its super-sized version of its deposit fee is not dead.

“We haven’t charged any clients to date, and the policy remains in place as markets remain unsettled and interest rates remain at historic lows,” BNY Mellon spokesman Ron Sommer wrote in an email. The fee, he added, was aimed at “a small number of clients with extraordinarily high and volatile deposit levels.” In its August letter, the bank urged clients to consider cash investment options “to minimize any effect” of the mooted fee.

The plan was prompted by a flood of deposits from companies, money-market funds and other clients fleeing short-term investments that exposed them in late July to the then-unfolding Greek financial crisis and from U.S. government securities amid a Congressional impasse over raising the U.S. debt ceiling. A source said Bank of New York’s deposits swelled about 39 percent in a period of two weeks in late July and early August to about $250 billion, underscoring the fragility of the global financial system at any sign of panic and creating balance-sheet management challenges for the bank.

At the end of September, deposits were 45 percent higher than a year earlier, Chief Financial Officer Todd Gibbons said in discussing third-quarter earnings, though he said the influx had stabilized since earlier in the quarter. Sommer declined to discuss the deposit levels. Bank of New York continues to attract a heavy flow of cash since it has higher ratings from Moody’s Investor Services than trust bank competitors such as State Street Corp and Northern Trust Corp, another official said. Those banks did not match Bank of New York’s deposit fee announcement, although some commercial banks with larger lending businesses that fund loans with deposits have been passing FDIC fees to some of their small-business customers.

The policy was initiated under former Bank of New York Chief Executive Robert Kelly, who was ousted in early September and replaced by Gerald Hassell, a 30-plus-year veteran of Bank of New York who some insiders said was more sensitive to client relationships. Kelly took the top role when the New York bank combined in 2007 with Pittsburgh-based Mellon Financial Corp, which he led. “I believe they are backing away from the strategy, Gerard Cassidy, an analyst at RBC Capital Markets, wrote in an email. “Not certain if it is customer backlash or a rethinking of strategy under new CEO.”

Custody banks make most of their money from holding securities and other assets for clients worldwide and ensuring that they are properly accounted for and exchanged when clients demand.

Bank of New York swapped its 338 retail branches and small business banking businesses in 2006 for JPMorgan Chase & Co’s corporate trust business and $150 million in cash. The deal helped Bank of New York avoid some of the credit problems that continue to depress earnings of more traditional banks, but deprives it of the ability to negotiate on loans and other businesses in return for winning custody activities. Because rates are so low, many custody banks today are less eager to attract new business or are more aggressive about insisting that clients offset the low-return deposit business by using other services, said Anthony Carfang, head of Treasury Strategies, a Chicago-based consulting firm.

It is too bad but it looks like the NBA is coming back.

BRUCE A. BRENNAN BLOG FROM THE WORLD AND MY MIND

The news as I see it and the views as I want them.

November 27 is … Pins And Needles Day

Is President Obama a Christian? I am just on pins and needles waiting to find out. During the President’s annual Thanksgiving speech he failed to thank God. He did not mention God. At least he did not thank Allah.

In the does anybody really cares drawer is this meaningless tidbit. NBA owners and players resumed talks Friday aimed at ending the 148-day lockout in time to save the league’s Christmas Day schedule.

That deadline has created a sense of urgency because the Dec. 25 schedule is traditionally a showcase for the league. This season’s three-game slate was to include Miami at Dallas in an NBA finals rematch, plus MVP Derrick Rose leading Chicago into Los Angeles to face Kobe Bryant and the Lakers.

After a secret meeting earlier this week, the sides returned to the table for more than nine hours of discussions. Commissioner David Stern has said the league needs about 30 days from an agreement to when games could be played.

Now, since the NBA might be losing a big media attention day, the labor unrest will be dealt with. It was not that pressing of a deal when only the fans and the arena workers were being screwed but the NBA cannot have the league lose face…or money.

After I wrote the above, the following came off the wires. At long last—after 149 days, in fact—the NBA and the players who populate the league have gotten themselves to the brink a settlement that will end the lockout and get the 2011-’12 season underway. The season will start late but everyone will still make money. It has been a contentious and rhetoric-packed battle, and it will take some time for the details to be sorted out. But it sure looks like pro basketball will back this season.

Commissioner David Stern has said that the league would need 30 days to get up and running, which means that by doing a full-court press on the preseason, we will have NBA games on the league’s most treasured early season day—Christmas.

It is all about money. It always is about money in every labor stoppage, strike or lockout. The principals always lie and say it is not about money but it always is. If the NBA gets back to business, once again pro athletes that have little education, can barely speak intelligible English, oftentimes are criminals, have few morals, have no class and are pampered prima donnas will start playing a game that someone, some time ago decided if you could play the game at the highest level for two years you never have to work again. Many people that contribute more to society have short careers but they merely get another job in another field. Why do athletes get the free ride in life?

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.

We can all be thankful Lenny Dykstra is going to jail.

November 26 is … Shopping Reminder Day

Just a reminder; did you go shopping on Black Friday? Apparently many people did but they left their Holiday spirit at home and brought their tasers, pepper spray and guns instead.

The Detroit Lions are 2 and 4 since starting the season 5 and 0. The Buffalo Bills and Washington Redskins are not far behind in the peaking too early category.

Illinois had a tough game on their hands but managed to defeat the Illinois State Redbirds the other night to claim basketball supremacy in Central Illinois.

A former Major League baseball player wants the world to know he is not a criminal, even though he has been in jail and is going to prison. His problems are the fault of something other than him. Of course, he is not a liar and is an intelligent trustworthy drug addict.

Dystra, in his first sit-down interview since his plea in a grand theft auto case earlier this year, told the New York Daily News’ Nancy Dillon that his recent five-month stretch in the Los Angeles County Jail hammered home many much-needed lessons.

Dykstra, 48, spoke to the newspaper at The Hills rehab center in Los Angeles. Among the revelations:

Lenny Dykstra played in the majors from 1985 to 1996.

• Dykstra said his demons were wine, vodka, pain pills, party drugs and the rush he got blowing through his millions: “It’s not a coincidence that I’m here. It happened because I was using drugs and alcohol. It was a reality check.”

• He said he has learned that his destructive addictions and major league ego cost him his fortune, his marriage and his freedom: “The way I lived my life helped me in baseball. But when you’re spending $28,000 for a bottle of wine and liking it? Nothing was ever enough. The punishment gods said, ‘You know what we’re going to do? We’re going to put you in (expletive)ing jail. We’re going to put you in the cooler because you have to pay for some things.’ ”

• He faces up to four years in jail at his January sentencing in the auto theft case, and an April search of his residence turned up drugs and drug paraphernalia. He declined to discuss with the Daily News his ongoing legal saga, but he was adamant that he’s not a bad person. “I’m not a criminal. There will be a good ending. Just like I knew when I was growing up that I was going to be a major-league baseball player. But there’s work I have to do and a price I have to pay.”

• He scoffed at reports that he recently bailed on a celebrity boxing match against fellow former baseball star Jose Canseco, claiming that a Pennsylvania fan who ran the Twitter feed while he was in jail signed the contract without his full consent and then fabricated quotes for a press release. Dykstra said he doesn’t even know the password for the Twitter account bearing his name and is pursuing a restraining order.

• He said he is a voluntary patient on scholarship at The Hills, takes routine drug tests and calls his thinking “clear”: “I’m a partier, (and) it leads to making decisions that probably led to why I’m here right now. And that’s a fact that I have to admit.”

Dykstra, who played 12 years in the majors, including a World Series-winning year with the Mets in 1986, has struggled with legal issues for several years.

The rundown, according to sources: His 2007 purchase of Wayne Gretzky’s $18.5 million mansion landed him in bankruptcy court. He was arrested in April on charges that he embezzled $400,000. The grand theft auto case followed, and he also was accused of exposing himself to women who answered his help-wanted ads on Craigslist.com.

Nice guy, Lenny. Baseball and society could use more nice guys like you and Jerry Sandusky from Penn State.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.

The news as I see it and the views as I want them.

November 25 is … National Parfait Day

Black Friday is here. A new study shows what most of us already knew; you will get better deals closer to Christmas but the selection will be thinner. Decision, decisions.

Man’s and woman’s best friend? You bethcha.

Story one:

A Minnesota woman credits her survival of a 20-hour ordeal after a tumble outside to her faithful dog and a punctual mail carrier.

Seventy-nine-year-old Emma Iverson says she fell and couldn’t get up outside her country home near Granite Falls in late September. Nobody heard her calls for help. After night fell, her dog, Crackers, repeatedly chased away the raccoons and coyotes that came around.

Eventually she fell asleep or lost consciousness. Postal carrier Stan Boushek arrived on schedule at 12:45 p.m. the next day and was just able to spot her from the end of her driveway. She spent nine days in a hospital but made a full recovery.

Story two:

Lao Pan, an unmarried man without much family, found close companionship with his loyal dog. And even through tragedy, their steadfast bond lives on.

Pan lived in the Chinese village of Panjiatun, but died earlier this month at the age of 68. His furry friend was found by villagers at Pan’s grave safeguarding the site according to BBC News. The loyal pup refused to leave even after going seven days without food.

Sky News reports that since noticing the dog, villagers have been bringing food and water to the gravesite, and are even planning to build a kennel there for the dog to sleep in.

This dog’s loyalty draws parallels to other famously loyal dogs, Digital Journal points out, such as Hachiko, Japan’s most faithful dog.

Hachiko would greet his master at the train station each evening in Japan, until one day his owner had a stroke and died at work. Although Hachiko was adopted, his loyalty remained. Legend has it that Hachiko went to the train station each night to wait for his master.

But perhaps more likely, Sky News highlights the similarities between this yellow dog and Edinburgh’s Greyfriars Bobby — a dog who returned to his master’s grave every day for 14 years. The dog now has a statue erected in honor of his loyalty.

Story three:

A Jack Russell terrier from Tennessee will soon be reunited with his owner after being found in a backyard in Michigan, the Detroit Free Press reports. Petey, the lucky pooch, had been lost since July, but his 73-year-old owner, Jim Arrighi, never stopped looking for him.

After he turned up in a backyard, Petey was taken to the Michigan Humane Society for an examination, where volunteers found a microchip that matched him to his owner in Tennessee, the Associated Press reports.

Arrighi’s stepdaughter, Tyanne Morrison, 54, told the Detroit Free Press that the miraculous find is a relief after their search efforts. “We’ve hunted and hunted everywhere. He’s had pictures put in the paper. We put posters up everywhere. We rode around on four wheelers in the area, so we knew he wasn’t hit by a car,” Morrison told the paper.

The reunion is well timed, since Arrighi’s wife passed away two weeks ago. He believes she may have helped their dog in some way to get back home, WDIV reported. “My wife passed away on the the 12th of this month,” he told the station. “That was terrible. I can’t handle that very good.”

Since Arrighi can’t make the journey to collect Petey, the humane society volunteer Nancy Greiser and her friend will drive about 1,100 miles round-trip on Wednesday.

Petey isn’t the first dog to be found a long way from home. One smart Shih Tzu returned home after going missing for five years — most impressively, the home he returned to was a new house where his family had relocated to. Perhaps the ultimate missing dog story belongs to Muffy. Nine years after going missing from her home in Australia, she was found — 1,200 miles away. Many of these dogs were found and returned due to a microchip identifying their owners.

Story four:

A family dog named Blue is being credited with keeping a three-year-old girl alive after she was lost in the freezing northern Arizona Wilderness.
The toddler, Victoria Bensch, was reunited with her parents after being found by rescue teams early Friday morning with Blue curled up next to her, MyFox Phoenix reported.
During her night alone the temperature dropped to just 30-degrees Fahrenheit, and the little girl was not wearing any shoes.
Yavapai County Sherriff’s Office spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn credited the Queensland Heeler with keeping Victoria alive, and doctors agreed she was extremely lucky to have survived the freezing temperatures.
A department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter crew found the little girl and her dog three-quarters of a mile from her Cordes Lakes home, east of Prescott in Arizona’s high country.
DPS paramedic Eric Tarr said the girl was face down in the wash and that if it wasn’t for her dog, they might not have seen her.
I kneeled down next to her and told her I’m going to take you to your mommy. She smiled at me and put her arms up, said Tarr.
She was already pretty cold by the time we got to her and it was good the dog was with her, said DPS pilot Matt Uhl.
You could see the dog’s expression almost turn into a smile. It came and jumped into the helicopter no problem at all.

Happy Holiday Season!

It was the night before Thanksgiving forty years ago that one of Americas most loved mysteries began. On Nov. 24, 1971, the night before Thanksgiving, a man described as being in his mid-40s with dark sunglasses and an olive complexion boarded a Northwest Orient Airlines flight from Portland to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. He bought his $20 ticket under the name “Dan Cooper,” but an early wire-service report misidentified him as “D.B. Cooper,” and the name stuck. D.B. Cooper, is the mysterious skyjacker who vanished out the back of a Boeing 727 wearing a business suit, a parachute and a pack with $200,000 in ransom money 40 years ago Thursday. The money was never found or spent. D.B. Cooper was never captured or his body found.  No sign of Cooper has ever emerged, but a boy digging on a Columbia River beach in 1980 found three bundles of weathered $20 bills – Cooper’s cash, according to the serial numbers.

“How wonderful it would be if we could help our children and grandchildren to learn thanksgiving at an early age. Thanksgiving opens the doors. It changes a child’s personality. Second Vatican Council nearly killed the Roman Catholic Church.

BRUCE A. BRENNAN BLOG FROM THE WORLD AND MY MIND

The news as I see it and the views as I want them.

November 23 is … National Cashew Day

I mentioned yesterday that President Kennedy was granted special permission by the Catholic Church to eat meat on the Friday he was assassinated. The meatless Friday issue was addressed for the entire Church membership by the Second Vatican Council.

The Second Vatican Council was convened by Pope John XXIII. He died while the Council was still working on the update of the Churches traditions. The Council was in session from 1962 through 1965. The goal of updating the Church while improving membership has failed miserably.

If we compare the Catholic Church in general before the Second Vatican Council to the modern day church today, we can see MANY differences. Obviously these differences vary parish to parish and all may not apply to all parishes, though there is no doubt these changes are widespread:

Traditional Church New Church (1969 and later)
Full churches on Sundays and Holy Days Near-empty churches on Sundays and Holy Days.
Abundant religious vocations (priests and nuns) Drastic drop in religious vocations
Altar used Altar replaced with a table
Tabernacle kept on altar in center Tabernacle removed or moved to the side
Crucifix over the altar Crucifix removed, and other pictures such as that of John Paul II are   hung instead
Communion rail Communion rail removed
Statues of Jesus, Mary, Angels & Saints Most if not all statues removed
Veneration of Saints Little or no veneration of Saints
Little variations in churches across parishes Large variations across parishes
Modesty regulations strictly adhered to Modesty regulations lax or abolished
Goal of the Church to convert others to Catholicism Conversions no longer a goal – instead Ecumenism is preached
Heresy strictly forbidden by the church Heresy no longer discussed
Staying in the state of grace and receiving the sacraments mandatory   to save our souls Sacraments optional. Little emphasis on the state of the soul, mortal   sin, penance, judgment or hell
Liturgy and sacraments consistent throughout the centuries Liturgy changed and validity of the sacraments now questionable
Tradition held sacred in every aspect Modernism now replaces tradition
Priests ordained with traditional rite Priest validity of ordination questionable due to changes in   ordination rituals

The Changes to the Catholic Mass

If we compare traditional Catholic Mass (before the Second Vatican Council) to the modern “new mass” that exists in churches today, all of the differences below have also been witnessed. Again, these differences may vary parish to parish and all do not apply to all parishes, but nevertheless, these changes are undeniably.

WIDESPREAD:

Traditional Mass (followed since the earliest   days of the Church) New Mass (1969 and later)
Mass was the solemn worship of God offered as a “sacrifice” for our   sins Mass now more of a memorial, instructional service or meeting
Mass said in Latin for centuries Mass inaccurately translated to English
Rituals & prayers untouched since the early days of the Church Rituals & prayers changed or removed despite prior Popes’   disapproval
Priest faces Our Lord in the Tabernacle Priest has his back to tabernacle (if there is a tabernacle)
Communion received on the tongue Communion received in the hand
Communion received kneeling Communion received standing
Communion distributed by priest only Communion distributed by anyone
Silence, reverence & devotion during Mass Talking and little devoutness during Mass
Sisters sing beautiful hymns at Mass Modern, profane music at Mass
Priest reverent and restrained during Mass Priest very casual and frequently joking
Frequent signs of the cross & genuflections by priest and laity Far fewer signs of the cross & genuflections
No variations in Mass across parishes Large variations across parishes (ONE Church should have NO   variation)
High Mass with incense No more high masses or use of incense
Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament Benediction completely changed or abolished
Altar boys only Altar girls
Only clergy and altar boys in sanctuary Anyone in the sanctuary
Only Traditional missal used according to decrees of Council of Trent Traditional missal discarded, contrary to decrees of Council of Trent
Traditional Canon of the mass intact and is a true sacrifice with   true transubstantiation Words changed – true transubstantiation doubtful which likely makes   the new mass no longer a true sacrifice. This change is the single most   devastating change that resulted from Vatican II

Notice that many of the changes to the Catholic Church since the Second Vatican Council resemble changes proposed by Luther in the 16th century, many of which are seen in Protestant churches today. During the Reformation, Luther’s motive was to destroy the belief that the Catholic Mass is a true sacrifice and to also push ecumenism (i.e. one religion is as good as another).

How can this “new mass” and new doctrine, forbidden by prior Popes and forbidden throughout the history of the Church be true and pleasing to God?

Looking at the changes to the Catholic Church and Mass above, it is not surprising that there has been a drastic drop in religious vocations and people practicing their faith today. Clearly many characteristics in today’s Catholic Church have similarities to Protestant churches. Since there were Protestant ministers involved with the “renewing” of the Catholic Church at the Second Vatican Council, is this not a surprise? If you were born after 1969 and have only attended the “new mass” in English and have always thought it was the norm, you have now been shown it is NOT the norm.

KEEP IN MIND:

Truth doesn’t change. If the traditional mass was right before Vatican II, then it is right now. If the new mass was wrong before Vatican II, then it is also wrong now.

”Therefore, brethren, stand fast; and hold the traditions which you have learned, whether by word, or by our epistle.” Thessalonians 2:2

Beware of false prophets, who come to you in the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. By their fruits you shall know them. (Matthew 7:15-16)

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.

BRUCE A. BRENNAN BLOG FROM THE WORLD AND MY MIND

The news as I see it and the views as I want them.

November 22 is … Start Your Own Country Day

That almost happened on November 22, 1963. It will be happening in 2012 if the Congress does not start doing what they are paid to do. Our Congress and President are shameless, clueless, idiotic laughingstocks. If we do not vote these jackasses out of office, America will see more bloodshed on the streets. I have my weapons loaded; come and get me!

Where were you on November 22, 1963, a Friday, around 1:00 p.m. central time? I was sitting at St. Anthony’s school in third grade with Mrs. Wahl. An announcement came over the intercom, which was a new addition to the school, announcing the President of the United States had been killed. A few minutes later another announcement was made telling us school was over for the day.

I do not know if the school officials called parents or made an announcement on the local radio, I just knew school was out for the weekend. No one was home when I got home except for my brother and sister who went to the same school. We walked home together. It was only two blocks.

We had a live-in housekeeper at the time. She was gone for the weekend. My mother arrived home soon after we got there. My dad got home a little after that.

I was eight years old. I did not comprehend or fully understand what was happening in America. It was obvious it was a big deal, we got out of school early. I do not recall seeing either of my parents cry during this time period

I clearly remember the television had nothing on but Kennedy stuff accept for Chicago channel 9. They stayed with regular programs but we only had one TV and it was on the news stuff.

Saturday morning was a long morning. None of the regular cartoons were on. By then, I was getting into watching the President stuff; so were my brother and sister. I clearly remember the Oswald killing and the funeral procession with the riderless horse, Black Jack. The Oswald killing was on Sunday and the funeral was on Monday, another school holiday.

It was a bad time for our country but I did not grasp that for a few years. I am glad I watched the television coverage. It was historic and I still recall it.

President Kennedy was a Roman Catholic. November 1963 was before major changes were made in the Catholic Church. The Mass and most services were still celebrated in Latin. On Friday, every Friday, Catholics were not to eat meat. This tradition came about because over the years the fishing industry in Italy had lobbied the Church for a meatless day to help keep the fishing trade afloat.

November 22, 1963 was a Friday. President Kennedy was in Texas for a breakfast, a lunch and a dinner. He was given special dispensation from the Vatican allowing him to eat meat.

The meatless Friday was changed a few years later to only be in effect during Lent. This was one of many changes that has helped the deterioration of the Catholic Church brought about by the Second Vatican Council.

Where were you on Friday November 22, 1963?

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.
