September 21
is … World Gratitude Day and International Banana Festival

Is that a banana in
your pocket or are you just happy to see me? Thank God for small miracles, my
family, my friends, my dog, nature, the great outdoors, intelligent people,
funny people, farmers, teachers, a good joke, a good movie, sports, watermelons
and seedless grapes.

Put the puck in the net boy. A middle-aged hockey mom accused of having
sex with two of her son’s former teammates was out on bail Monday after being
arrested at her Laguna Niguel home last week, authorities said.

Kathia Maria Davis, 44, faces charges of unlawful sex with a minor and
lewd acts with a child, according to Orange County Sheriff’s Department
spokesman Jim Amormino. She was arrested Wednesday after allegedly carrying on
sexual relationships with the boys over a period of three to five years,
officials said.

The first victim, who is still a juvenile, spilled details to his
mother last week. She called authorities and an investigation began.

“These are incidents that are always embarrassing for the families
and disgusting acts,” Amormino said. According to the mother, Davis hosted
parties at her home and served alcohol to underage team members, Amormino said.

A second boy also recounted alleged sexual encounters with the
dishwater-blonde divorcee, Amormino said. The second boy said he couldn’t
recall when the alleged trysts began, but he might have been 14, authorities
said. Both boys played for a youth hockey team called Beach City Lightning,
Amormino said. Club president Stacey Chilcoff said the two players hadn’t been
involved with the team for at least four years.

Davis was released from custody after posting $25,000 bail, Amormino
said.

Tuesday was the first day gays could openly serve in the military. Have
you noticed a difference yet? I am sure an incident will happen the military
will publicize to make a point and then everything else will be deep-sixed.

President Obama started off his campaign to raise taxes using a scare
tactic, a sound bite and a lie. His proposal is so dead in the water he clearly
lied in an attempt to get a good sounding clip played on the news.

President Barack Obama makes it sound as if
there are millionaires all over America paying taxes at lower rates than their
secretaries.

“Middle-class families shouldn’t pay higher
taxes than millionaires and billionaires,” Obama said Monday. “That’s
pretty straightforward. It’s hard to argue against that.”

The data tell a different story. On average, the
wealthiest people in America pay a lot more taxes than the middle class or the
poor, according to private and government data. They pay at a higher rate, and
as a group, they contribute a much larger share of the overall taxes collected
by the federal government.

There may be individual millionaires who pay
taxes at rates lower than middle-income workers. In 2009, 1,470 households
filed tax returns with incomes above $1 million yet paid no federal income tax,
according to the Internal Revenue Service. That, however, was less than 1
percent of the nearly 237,000 returns with incomes above $1 million.

In his White House address Monday, Obama called
on Congress to increase taxes by $1.5 trillion as part of a 10-year deficit
reduction package totaling more than $3 trillion. He proposed that Congress
overhaul the tax code and impose what he called the “Buffett rule,”
named for billionaire investor Warren Buffett. The rule says, “People making
more than $1 million a year should not pay a smaller share of their income in
taxes than middle-class families pay.”

“Warren Buffett’s secretary shouldn’t pay a
higher tax rate than Warren Buffett. There is no justification for it,”
Obama said. “It is wrong that in the United States of America, a teacher
or a nurse or a construction worker who earns $50,000 should pay higher tax
rates than somebody pulling in $50 million.”

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think
about.

September 17 is … National Apple Dumpling Day

This seems a little weird but that is why life is so interesting. What
are the odds?

On the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks
on Sunday, horses wearing the numbers 9, 1 and 1 won the first three races at
Belmont.

The New York City track served as one of the
staging areas for workers and emergency vehicles in the days following the
destruction of the World Trade Center.

Actually, the pick three paid $18.60 for a $2
bet.

Lottery players weren’t so lucky, but the 9-1-1
combination proved more irresistible than ever. Carolyn Hapeman, a spokeswoman
for the New York State Lottery, said that combination for both the midday and
evening “Numbers” draw was sold out by 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 5 for every
twice-daily drawing right through Sept. 12.

The 9-1-1 pick has been a popular option for
lottery players, just like 1-1-1 or 7-7-7, and sells out every day, she said.
She didn’t recall a time when it sold out for seven straight days ahead of
time. The two draws on Sunday came up 1-0-8 and 5-4-3.

The odds are always 1,000-to-1 for any
three-number combination of numbered balls to randomly pop out of the machine,
but 9-1-1 did come up on one other auspicious date: Sept. 11, 2002, the first
anniversary of the attacks.

This is another reason we play the games;
somebody has to win.

In an obvious red herring, one bank is pointing
the finger at another bank as the government points it finger at all banks and
the citizens point their finger at the government. Somebody was the bad guy in
this but the blame game seeks to hide the truth.

JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM.N) was sued by
Wells Fargo & Co (WFC.N), which seeks to force it to buy back more than 800
soured mortgage loans that it oversees as trustee.

In a complaint made public on Wednesday in the
Delaware Chancery Court, Wells Fargo accused JPMorgan’s EMC Mortgage LLC unit
of refusing its demands that EMC buy back the loans, which were contained in
Bear Stearns Mortgage Funding Trust 2007-AR2. JPMorgan bought Bear Stearns and
its EMC unit in 2008. In the complaint, Wells Fargo said EMC and its affiliates
routinely approved mortgage loans despite “clear defects” in loan
applications, including faulty appraisals and inflated borrower incomes.

It also said a forensic review showed that EMC
breached representations and warranties on 89 percent of a sample of 948 of
mortgage loans. “The loans have been plagued by an alarming rate of
defaults and foreclosures,” Wells Fargo said. JPMorgan spokesman Patrick
Linehan declined to comment. Trustees such as Wells Fargo act on behalf of
investors in securities backed by underlying loans.

Some such as Wells Fargo and US Bancorp (USB.N),
which sued Bank of America Corp (BAC.N) last month, have taken legal action
against other banks when they believe misrepresentations have been made
regarding the securities.

JPMorgan is the nation’s second-largest bank by
assets, while Wells Fargo is the fourth-largest. Wells Fargo is also the
largest U.S. mortgage lender.

This sure reminds me of the Gulf oil soil in the
Gulf of Mexico. BP made all kind of promises and assurances while the news
cameras were still pointed at them. Now, each of the parties involved, BP,
Haliburton, the rig owner, the State government and the Federal government are
blaming each other. The buck has to stop somewhere.

I have never been good at three-card monty but I
know the game when I see it.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think
about.

September 15
is … Felt Hat Day

I do own a felt hat
but I have a couple made out of beaver skin. I do not wear any of them that
often except when I am camping but my youngest son wears fedoras quite often.

President Obama and
the Democrats got a small look at the future on Tuesday when Republicans won
two special elections for seats in the House of Representatives. One seat, from
Nevada, was projected to go /republican; the seat had never been won by a
Democrat. The other seat, in New York, to replace Anthony Weiner, the disgraced
sexting twitter star, was won by a Republican in an unexpected landslide. The
seat had been held by a Democrat for nearly a century but no more.

There was more bad
news for President Obama on Tuesday. Bank of America took billions and billions
of dollars of taxpayer’s money to remain in business. They apparently needed
new management more than money. On the day after President Obama presented his
job program to Congress, Bank of America gave the finger to the President, the
Congress and the United States citizens when it announced a massive layoff.

As companies closing shop or cutting costs stoke recession fears, the
return of mass layoffs may be the U.S. economy’s greatest concern.

On the same day that President Barack Obama submitted the American Jobs Act
to Congress, his plan to stimulate an ailing labor market, Bank of America
announced it will lay off 30,000 employees due to restructuring. That’s the
largest layoff announcement in the country this year, according to outplacement
consulting firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

The bank’s decision may not be the largest single layoff announcement in
recent years — that distinction belongs to Citigroup’s November 2008 slashing
of 50,000 jobs — but in an economy that Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul
Krugman says has a 50 percent chance of falling back into recession, it’s cause
for concern. And Bank of America’s announcement is only the latest layoffs
news. Companies like pharmaceutical giant, Merck and Co., Borders and Cisco
Systems Inc. already made large layoff announcements this year. U.S. Postal
Service officials said earlier this month that they would slash their workforce
by 20 percent.

Even less encouraging, small businesses laid off workers for the third
straight month in August, after planned job cuts surged to 66,414 in July, a
16-month high. Still, signs for optimism do exist on the layoffs front, as
planned jobs cuts fell by a nearly a quarter in August. If only the country
could create some jobs too. Bank of America’s announcement that it plans to
shed 30,000 jobs doesn’t address the bank’s most pressing concerns, experts
said Monday.

The job cuts come as part of an initiative known as Project New BAC, the
first phase of which aims to save $5 billion in annual costs by 2014, the bank
announced Monday. But shareholders have been preoccupied in recent months with
something other than overhead costs — namely, the lawsuits from investors and
government regulators that potentially threaten the bank with billions in
losses. The company’s stock price has fallen about 50 percent this year as
speculation has swirled that it doesn’t have enough capital to defend against
losses, despite the bank’s persistent statements to the contrary.

But experts say Project New BAC, which also included a shake-up of top
management, doesn’t address these legal concerns — and say it may be for
naught.

President Obama has a
tendency to talk about Warren Buffet in many of his speeches. A few months ago,
Warren Buffet came out and invested 5 billion dollars in Bank of America. He
used this grand gesture as publicity to show his patriotism. If you had
followed his lead and bought B of A stock, you would have enjoyed a quick
increase in stock value but that only lasted a few days. The stock is now worth
less than the day Mr. Buffet bought it.

Being a major player
in the ownership of Bank of America, it seems obvious he would have been
involved in this decision. His ownership interest also puts him in a great
position to be the white knight that ‘saves’ the company, at a small per
centage of the value using his ownership as his down stroke.

I wonder if President
Obama is going to lavish Mr. Buffet with praise for his getting involved with
Bank of America now?

More trouble for
President Obama with his health care law. In what seems to be a continuing
theme in legal challenges to the Obama Health Care law, It has once again been
held unconstitutional. The United States Supreme Court should cut through the
red tape and take the appeal immediately.

The requirement in the national health-care overhaul law that individuals
buy health insurance is unconstitutional, a federal judge in Pennsylvania ruled
Tuesday in a question that the U.S. Supreme Court is widely expected to settle.
The ruling by Judge Christopher C. Conner in Harrisburg was issued in one of
more than 30 lawsuits nationwide that have been filed over the 2010 law that is
President Barack Obama’s signature initiative. It was filed by a Pennsylvania
couple who do not have health insurance, but believe they would be subject to
the mandate.

Conner, who was appointed to the federal bench in 2002 by President George
W. Bush, said the mandate that individuals buy health insurance or pay a
penalty starting in 2014 is an unconstitutional extension of authority granted
to the federal government under the Constitution’s commerce clause. “The
nation undoubtedly faces a health care crisis,” Conner said. “Scores
of individuals are uninsured and the costs to all citizens are measurable and
significant. The federal government, however, is one of limited enumerated
powers, and Congress’s efforts to remedy the ailing health care and health
insurance markets must fit squarely within the boundaries of those
powers.”

The power to regulate interstate commerce, Conner wrote, does not include
the power to dictate a lifetime of buying health insurance. Left standing, such
a requirement would effectively sanction Congress’s exercise of police power,
he wrote.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think
about.

BRUCE A.
BRENNAN BLOG FROM THE WORLD AND MY MIND

The news as
I see it and the views as I want them.

September 14
is … National Cream-filled Donut Day

President Obama said
his jobs program would pay for itself. On Monday, he announced a series of tax
increases designed to pay for his program. Unless he is going to pay all of
these taxes himself, his program is going to be paid for by the working
Americans already hurting.

The Obama administration announced on Monday a series of tax policy changes
that officials say will pay for the costs of the president’s job creation plan.
The provisions, announced by Office of Management and Budget Chair Jack Lew,
would raise a projected $467 billion over the course of 10 years. The American
Jobs Act, as outlined by the president last week, will cost an estimated $447
billion.

The proposals being made by President Obama are merely old ideas being
repackaged. The tax increases are also old proposals already rejected by
Congress. The President offered nothing new and it took him three years to come
up with this failure. Obama has timed the jobs program to provide the Democrats
with the most political cover. Congress will reject his plan and the
Republicans will be blamed. The tax increases will fail and the Republicans
will be accused of protecting the wealthy.

If the jobs plan passes and works, one of the major components would be
giving teachers more jobs. By the time any law is passed and implemented,
nearly a year will pass meaning the teachers will be going back to work in
August 2012, three months before the election. Coincidence I am sure, not
politics.

The president is set to offer those pay-fors as part of a larger package of
debt and deficit reduction measures that he will present to the congressional
committee tasked with finding $1.5 trillion in savings. Whether the committee
incorporates those measures is up to them, Lew said. If they choose not to,
however, the administration said it would welcome Congress as a whole taking up
the proposal.

The provisions the White House is offering as an offset are largely
rehashes of tax policy changes that the president has pushed before. The
primary piece would be to limit itemized deductions for individuals making over
$200,000-a-year and families making over $250,000 — which Lew said would raise
$400 billion over 10 years. Another pay-for would be to treat carried interest
as ordinary income rather than capital gains, which Lew said would raise $18
billion. The White House is also calling for the end of tax subsidies for
certain oil and gas companies, which the administration believes would raise
$40 billion and the axing of a tax break for corporate jet owners, which it believes,
could save $3 billion. “The kinds of provisions we are talking about
changing we don’t believe will cause a reduction of any kind of economic
activity or job loss,” said Lew. “In terms of timing, these
provisions don’t take effect until January 2013,” he added, emphasizing
the long-term nature of the off sets. “It is very consistent in paying for
an immediate jobs and growth package.”

By offering specific ways to pay for the American Jobs Act, the White House
is fulfilling an early promise from when he began the latest pivot to
job-creation: mainly that anything he proposed wouldn’t increase the deficit.
But in coming out with a plan of his own (rather than, say, asking the super
committee to find the money for the bill), the administration risks handing the
GOP a cudgel of its own. The tax provisions that Lew outlined all have been
offered, to some degree, in the past, only to be summarily castigated as hikes
and shelved by Democrats and this president. The administration also may be
making the super-committee’s job a touch harder. If those specific tax policy
changes are used to pay for the jobs act, that means that committee members
can’t double dip — i.e. use the same measures to achieve their $1.5 trillion
in savings. Lew, for his part, downplayed that potential issue, noting that the
president will outline a large deficit and debt reduction package that
“will achieve beyond the targets beyond what the joint committee has,
fully pay for the jobs package and stabilize the deficit and debt in the ten
year window.”

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think
about.

September 13
is … Defy Superstition Day

Well at least it is
not Friday, it will be in three days. That sentence has thirteen words in it, I
write in defiance.

With computers,
bookkeepers, accountants, bean-counters, guards, guns and soldiers everywhere,
how does this happen? Oh yeah, it is the government. That was a rhetorical
question.

Officials at Fort Bragg say an investigation is under way into the
disappearance of nearly 14,000 rounds of ammunition at the Army base. Staff
Sgt. Joshua Ford, a spokesman for the 82nd Airborne Division, says the
ammunition went missing from the 1st Brigade Combat Team at Fort Bragg.

The Fayetteville Observer reports that Ford believed the ammunition was
taken overnight on Tuesday. The 1st Brigade team was placed on lockdown for a
few hours Wednesday night while officials conducted a search. The missing
ammunition can be used in an M-4 or M-16 assault rifle.

Ford says the 82nd Airborne Division and military police are taking the
matter seriously and that “any amount of ammunition that goes
missing” has “got to be accounted for.”

How large of a moving device would you need to transport 14,000 rounds of
ammunition? It would not fit in your pocket. Taking into account the security
at military bases, this has to be an inside job. How ignorant is the soldier
who thinks he/she would get away with this.

Authorities are trying to find 14,000 rounds of ammunition missing from
Fort Bragg in North Carolina. The ammunition went missing from the 1st Brigade
Combat Team at Fort Bragg, said Staff Sgt. Joshua Ford.

The missing ammunition can be used in the M-4 and M-16 assault rifles. Someone
alerted Fort Bragg leadership about the missing items on Wednesday, Ford said. After
the report, the 1st Brigade team, about 3,500 people, was placed on lockdown
during an initial investigation, Ford said.

The ammunition was not found and the lockdown was lifted Wednesday night. “The
incident is currently under investigation and all appropriate measures are
being taken to locate the small arms ammunition that was discovered missing on
Wednesday,” said Lt. Col David Connolly, a spokesman for the 82nd Airborne
Division.

Is the military too big to fail? It sure seems to fail an awful lot
although it has more victories than losses.

Serena Williams embarrassed herself, her family and all Americans with her
unsportsman like and unlady like behavior in the final of the 2011 U. S. Open
in tennis. After her obvious fault on the court, she continued to berate and
chastise the chair judge during breaks in the action.

At one point she commented how “…I never complain”. What a lie. She had
two outbursts in this year’s tournament and another in the 2009 U. S. Open that
was profane and nearly ended in her suspension from the United States Tennis
Association. Serena has reached the highest level of competition in her chosen
field and has generally been a credit to tennis. She appears to be unable to
accept the aging process all athletes eventually reach. The sport and the
tennis fans have made her enormously wealthy. I hope she does not entirely ruin
her reputation and place in history by continuing this self-destructive
behavior.

It is becoming clear Jackie Onassis was also a good actress. New details
about what life was like behind the scenes in the Kennedy White House are
coming to light, from interviews that Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis recorded just
after her husband’s death.

ABC says that the tapes deal with a wide variety of topics: from their
early years on the campaign trail, to the Cuban Missile Crisis, to the Bay of
Pigs, and his last days in the White House. The interviews also reflect Mrs.
Kennedy’s evolving sense of herself and her role as first lady, as she talks
about her family, world leaders, and life in the White House.

The tapes have been made public now by Kennedy’s daughter Caroline, in a
deal with ABC which saw the network scrap a miniseries that focused on the
Kennedy administration. ABC is airing a special program, Jacqueline Kennedy:
In Her Own Words
, on the release of the tapes tonight at 9pm ET

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think

September 11
is … No News Is Good News Day

I am proud to be an
American. I will not apologize for my country or for being an American.
President Obama sees it differently.

Since 911, the
economy has collapsed; unemployment has exploded; we have lost many of our
rights to privacy; the government can scan, search and fondle the citizens
without probable cause or even reasonable suspicion; the cost of air travel has
increased; taxes and fees have increased; the size of government has increased;
we have started two wars; we have invaded four countries; home ownership has
become a burden; we can no longer effectively govern under the two party system
of democracy; we all know of the illegal immigration problem and refuse to deal
with it; we reward laziness; welfare has increased; we take from the rich and
give, give, give to the poor and lazy; we reward giving birth to children out
of wedlock; we cannot pray in schools or in most government buildings; our
government fights to protect the Muslim religion but no other religion; a
church can protest at funerals of soldiers killed in combat but if someone
tries to block the building of a Muslim center at ground zero, you are called a
bigot and politicians line up to support the building; the government was
responsible for the economic collapse in 2008 and the resultant failed bailout
and responded by hiring the private sector people that caused the collapse to
fix the problem; we keep throwing money at education and continue to think that
is the answer.

A lot has changed
since September 11, 2001. A lot has stayed the same since September 11, 2001.
Who is winning the terrorist battle, them or us?

Today is the tenth
anniversary of the cowardly attacks on the United States and its non-military
citizens by the war-hungry, useless religion, Islam. We should investigate
every Muslim in this country as a matter of public safety and national
security. This is a democracy. The few may lose to the will of the many. Live
with it or get out.

The attacks of ten
years ago have cost this country and the rest of the world enormously in a
financial analysis. It has cost the innocent loss in rights to privacy, freedom
of movement and the pursuit of happiness. The Courts once again concern overly
themselves with the rights of the guilty, suspicious and useless while
trampling on the rights of the law abiders.

The attacks of 911
have added costs to nearly every aspect of our lives. Air travel is now nearly
unbearable yet no safer. The government says it is safer because we have not
had any more attacks since 911. We did not have any before 911 so only the
hassle and cost have changed. The minor incidents the government gloats about
preventing have only failed because of the incompetence of the attacker not the
diligence of the government. The underwear bomber failed because he put the
bomb together poorly. The Times Square bomber failed because his bomb failed to
detonate. The government did not prevent either attack; the attacks were
failures not prevented.

No more than 4 ounces
of liquid on a plane unless you buy it from the airline. I guess if you blow a
small hole in a plane caused by 4 ounces it is OK but no more. I have a
solution. People only on commercial airliners. A jet follows with all of the
gear and baggage. Pay the pilot of the gear plane a little more if it is deemed
more dangerous. The same concept could work with trains and buses.

Allow people easier
access to forms of identification. If you apply for a fraudulent ID you go to
jail for ten years. No bail while awaiting trial. No credit for time served.
After ten years, the urge to secure a false ID will have passed. Additionally,
since we have had this person in custody for at least ten years, we will know
who they are by the time we release them and we can issue them an ID upon said
release.

Let me use cash
again. Do not track my use of cash. Crime has not decreased since we started
restricting the free flow of currency so what purpose is it serving?

The Islamic
extremists and Muslims in general have profoundly impacted the lives of
Americans for the worse. We cannot kill them all but we can isolate them. Have
absolutely no relationship with any Muslim nation or any country over 40% Muslim
and any country helping Muslim nations. The rest of the world will beat a path
back to our door and away from rogue nations like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen,
Libya, Egypt, etc. What good does it do to be the most powerful nation and
richest nation in the world if we cannot impose our might on the world? I think
most people will agree the world was a better place from 1946 to 2001 than it
is today. I wonder why?

Pearl Harbor was
attacked by the Japanese on December 7, 1941. During the ten years after that
event, the United States won WWII and got involved in the Korean War, it was in
a stalemate from July 1952 to the end. The United States prospered economically
in a growth pattern that lasted nearly 35 years. Unemployment was at a low to
the point that this country was in reality at 100% employment. The only ones
that did not work did not want to work. We were proud to be Americans. We were
the world power every other country looked up to. Even the Soviet Union was
jealous of our success and power as they strived to beat us.

President FD
Roosevelt never apologized for America. President Harry Truman never apologized
for America. No President except Obama has ever apologized for America.

Ten years after 911
we are a laughing stock to much of the world. Few nations fear us. Many nations
are ahead of us economically. We have started two wars that resulted in little
if any good. The nations we attacked and invaded are worse off today than they
were on the day we invaded them. We are a giant ATM for the world and we are
too stupid to realize, too proud to stop it or just don’t care enough to tell
the world to go to hell.

God bless the USA; go
to hell the rest.

These are just my
ramblings and thoughts. Some are good, some re bad, some are idiotic but they
are all American.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think
about.

September 10
is … Swap Ideas Day

I am sorry; I forgot
to include this on the 3rd of September. Click and enjoy.

Did the President try to swap his ideas with
Congress Thursday evening? This will be the same Democrat vs. Republican fight.
Many of the ideas seem good on the first reading. The true test is in the
details.

I can support a
massive public works program. Why pay people not to work? The people hired must
be legal citizens without felony records. We need to put the good people to
work first.

I do not believe the
program sketched by President Obama is revenue neutral. That would be a first
in the history of American politics. Obama spoke of setting up at least two
different agencies to implement his program. That is just making bigger
government and putting people to work putting people to work. That is like
looking at a mirror of yourself looking at a mirror of yourself. It can theoretically
go on forever. That is not a good idea.

President Obama
talked about how important this is and how it needs to be done now. Why did he
announce the speech six weeks ago and then negotiate when he would give it if
it is that important. His constant scolding of Congress during the speech did
not go over well and will hurt his chances of successfully pushing a meaningful
plan through Congress.

President Obama is
clearly in over his head. He is not prepared to lead this country and has not
improved during his three years in office. It takes more than a community
organizer to properly lead the United States of America. What does a community
organizer do and who pays his salary?

The latest rumors on Casey Anthony’s whereabouts say that she’s headed to a
Mexican ranch owned by a wealthy man from California who wants to shield her
from the intense public scrutiny. She met the man when he wrote to her as she
sat in jail waiting for her murder trial to begin. This guy must not get out
much or he wants to get her out of the country in case something happens to
her.

The search for missing Maryland school teacher Alice Davis took an
unexpected turn Thursday night, when authorities found her husband dead inside
their home. The body of Jesse Davis, a 58-year-old taxidermist, was found in
the living room of the couple’s home in Allen at 8:30 p.m. last night,
according to the Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis.

“We had his home under surveillance because he was a suspect in this
investigation,” Lewis told The Huffington Post. “A vehicle
pulled up into the yard [and] two occupants entered the rear of the home.
Moments later they ran out of the home and hollered there was blood all over
the house.” A cause of death has not yet been released but Davis’ death
does appear to be a suicide, according to the sheriff.

“He died from what appears to be self-inflicted razor wounds to his left
arm — he severed his artery,” Lewis said.

The discovery was made not long after authorities had executed a search
warrant on the Davis home in regard to the unsolved disappearance of Alice
Davis. A 55-year-old English teacher at Parkside High School in Salisbury,
Alice Davis was last seen at about 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. According to her
husband, she left their Allen home to go shopping at a Walmart in nearby
Fruitland, Md.

This guy apparently could not take the heat and did not see any other door
that would let him out.

It wasn’t amateur hour at the Baby Dolls Lounge, and Natalie Behnke found
out the hard way. The 25-year-old Florida woman was taken into custody after
allegedly stripping, asking customers for money, and becoming aggressive with
dancers at the Clearwater strip club, Cecilia Barreda, a spokesperson for the
Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, told The Huffington Post.

“The manager told her to redress and told her she was causing a
disturbance with the other girls,” Barreda said, as she summarized the
police report.

Deputies responded to a call for possible disorderly conduct at 11:48 p.m.
on Sept. 6. When officers arrived, Behnke was standing outside the
establishment in what appeared to be her underwear, Barreda said. The suspect
was emotional, and deputies deemed her intoxicated.

The club manager told police that Behnke was asked to get dressed and leave
the premises after she began disrobing and asking patrons for cash. When
employees confronted Behnke about her behavior, she became aggressive and was
escorted out, according to the arrest summary. Behnke was charged with
disorderly intoxication, a misdemeanor. She pleaded no contest in a court
appearance Sept. 7, and was order to pay a fine totaling $525, according to
Pinellas court records. An office manager at Baby Dolls said the incident isn’t
anything new.

The man, who declined to give his name, has worked at several clubs over 19
years, and said “stuff like that happens all the time.”

Sometimes it is hard to remember this woman is someone’s daughter, sister
and/or, heaven forbid, mother. I do not frequent strip clubs but I have been to
a few. This does happen quite a bit. Rarely, are the rookies as good as the
old-timers.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think
about.

September 8
is … National Date Nut Bread Day and Pardon Day

Check this out. Have
your sound on. God Bless America and first responders.

On Tuesday, the ‘do nothing but tax’ governor
of Illinois, Governor Milquetoast announced he was going to lay-off thousands
of state workers and close prisons, homes for the insane and homes for the
mentally disabled.

In December of 2010,
this public pest sold a tax increase to the state legislature that increased
State of Illinois income taxes by nearly 100 %. He pressured several unions to
accept reduced pay and benefits in order to avoid lay-offs. Over seven
legislators who retired from the State legislator but voted for the tax
increase being pushed by the pest have been given high paying jobs in the
governor’s administration.

Now he is playing the
card all unimaginative politicians use. Either we get more money or prisons
will close and group homes will close. He is trying to scare the citizens with
the fact he and his co-horts cannot do their job effectively. He is turning on
the unions that got him elected. He is a liar, a cheat and incapable of doing
the job of governor. Impeachment is in order.

The Illinois state
toll way authority just voted a raise in toll rates that nearly doubled the
cost to drive on the toll ways in the state and more than doubled the cost for
truckers. I can see this coming from Utah. Our governor Milquetoast is going to
try to latch onto the increased toll way revenue.

Who did not see this
coming from the White House? President Obama has complained about the
Republicans playing politics with the wars we are fighting. Now, in an obvious
political move, Obama has decided to drastically reduce the troops in Iraq
against the advice of his military experts. I agree with the removal of troops
and would remove all of them but Obama better quit complaining about others
doing what he is doing. From Tuesday’s news, the
Obama administration has decided to drop the number of U.S. troops in Iraq
at the end of the year down to 3,000, marking a major downgrade in force
strength, multiple sources familiar with the inner workings and decisions on
U.S. troop movements in Iraq told Fox News.

Senior commanders are said
to be livid at the decision, which has already been signed off by Defense
Secretary Leon Panetta.
Panetta, touring sites Tuesday in advance of the Sept. 11 10th commemoration,
insisted “no decision has been made” on the number of troops to stay
in Iraq.  “That obviously will be
the subject of negotiations with the Iraqis and as a result of those
negotiations. As I said no decision has been made of what the number will
be,” he said.

Currently, about 45,000
U.S. troops are stationed in Iraq. The generals on the ground had requested
that the number of troops remaining in Iraq at the end of the year reach about
27,000. There was major pushback about “the cost and the political
optics” of that decision. Then that number was reduced to 10,000.  Commanders said they could possibly make that
work “in extremis,” in other words, meaning they would be pushing it
to make that number work security-wise and manpower-wise.

Now, sources confirm that
the administration has pushed the Pentagon
to cut the number even lower, and commanders are concerned for the safety of
the U.S. troops who would remain there.  “We
can’t secure everybody with only 3,000 on the ground nor can we do what we need
to with the Iraqis,” one source said.  A senior military official said by reducing
the number of troops to 3,000, the White House has effectively reduced the
mission to training only.  “There is
almost no room for security operations in that number; it will be almost purely
a training mission,” this official said. The official added that a very
small number of troops within that 3,000 will be dedicated to counter-terrorism
efforts, but that’s not nearly what Gen. Lloyd Austin, the top U.S. commander
in Iraq, wanted.

This shift is seen by
various people as a cost-saving measure and a political measure. White House
spokesman Jay Carney said Tuesday that the U.S. has operated responsibly to
meet the year-end deadline to remove troops from Iraq, per a 2008 Status of
Forces Agreement.

He added that negotiations
with the Iraqis will determine the outcome, and while costs are a factor in
every decision, the administration makes decisions on what is best for the
United States. The only administration official fighting for at least 10,000
forces to stay in Iraq at the end of the year was Secretary of State Hillary Clinton,
sources said. But she has lost the battle.

Responding to the news,
Sen. Joe Lieberman,
D-Conn., who has traveled to Iraq many times, said that in all the
conversations he has had on force strength, he has “never heard a number
as low as 3,000 troops to secure the gains Iraqis have won over the
years.”  Lieberman said his first
question for the administration is whether the number is one Iraqis had
requested or if it was chosen according to other criteria.  Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said reducing the
troop presence to 3,000 “would put at risk all the United States has
fought for in Iraq.”

“The biggest winner of
a U.S. decision to move to 3,000 troops in Iraq would the Iranian regime. The
ayatollahs would rejoice,” he said. Any of the plans will require Iraqi
approval, and on that front, the Pentagon recently secured a commitment from
the Iraqis to start negotiations, but they have not agreed to any number.  “Discussions with the Iraqis on our
post-2011 strategic relationship are ongoing, and no decisions on troop levels
have been made,” said Panetta spokesman George Little. “We continue
to proceed with troop withdrawals as directed by the president.”

On Tuesday, the head of the
three-province Kurdish autonomous region in the north of Iraq, warned that if
American troops leave sectarian violence might resurface. Massoud Barzani urged
the central Iraqi government to sign an agreement with the U.S. to keep forces
in the country.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think
about.

How stupid is our government?

SEPTEMBER 4, 2011

BRUCE A.
BRENNAN BLOG FROM THE WORLD AND MY MIND

The news as
I see it and the views as I want them.

September 4
is … Newspaper Carrier Day

I hope all the
newspapers are carrying this story. It emphasizes and demonstrates how stupid
and gullible the United States taxpaying citizen is. It further demonstrates
how criminal our politicians are.

Talk about a tax loophole. Undocumented workers collected $4.2 billion in a
certain tax credit last year, up from less than $1 billion five years ago,
according to a new audit.

The report from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration
looked only at a tax benefit known as the Additional Child Tax Credit, a
refundable credit meant for working families. The audit found that as a result
of vague U.S. law — as well as an expansion of the tax credit in stimulus
legislation and other measures — the number of illegal workers collecting the
money has skyrocketed.

The inspector general’s office
expressed concern about the trend and urged the IRS and Treasury Department to
determine once and for all whether that money should be paid out. “The
payment of federal funds through this tax benefit appears to provide an
additional incentive for aliens to enter, reside and work in the United States
without authorization, which contradicts federal law and policy to remove such
incentives,” the report said.

The report highlighted a quirk in U.S. law. Even people who are not
authorized to work are supposed to pay the IRS taxes on their income. Many of
those people cannot obtain a Social Security number, so to facilitate this the
IRS hands out what are known as Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers —
so illegal workers can file returns. However, in doing so many of those workers
are claiming tax benefits like the Additional Child Tax Credit. For some, it’s
a way of making even more money. “Refundable credits can result in refunds
even if no income tax is withheld or paid,” the report noted.

The Additional Child Tax Credit is an offshoot of another tax credit worth
up to $1,000 per child. Restrictions for the tax credits were loosened in 2001,
and eligibility was temporarily increased by the 2009 stimulus bill.

“As such, more taxpayers could claim the ACTC or claim a greater
amount,” the report said. The inspector general’s office said 2.3 million
undocumented filers claimed the credit in 2010, adding up to $4.2 billion worth
of refunds. Not all immigrants who are unauthorized to work are necessarily
illegal immigrants. However, any legal immigrant who works without
authorization would be in violation of his or her immigration status. The
report said that if the administration determines the credits should not be
paid in the future, then the IRS needs the authority to stop them.

According to the audit, the IRS agreed with that recommendation.

Who does the IRS hire to do this work? How can anyone be this stupid unless
they are illiterate and so far out of the loop that the last news story they
recall was of a Japanese soldier being found on a Pacific island still fighting
WWII thirty years after it ended.

How can politicians pass such a law and if it is a loophole, why didn’t
they notice this at the time or during the last twenty years?

It would be cheaper to not have them file than to pay them money to file.
The filing does no good since we do nothing with the information other than
know where to send the check.

Just a couple
of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.

BRUCE A.
BRENNAN BLOG FROM THE WORLD AND MY MIND

The news as
I see it and the views as I want them.

September 3
is … Skyscraper Day

In eight days we will
commemorate the tenth anniversary of losing two significant skyscrapers. NEVER
FORGET!

First, our government
alters free enterprise by over regulating it. The control the government has
over American business, because the politicians think they know better and more
than business professionals, is staggering and stifling. The government has
proven over and over again that everything they get involved in gets worse.

A prime example is
the financial markets and banks. The government has an enormous regulatory
apparatus in place to control the markets and the flow of money. With the
government watching and in control, the financial markets collapsed. Even
though the government was involved in this collapse and likely caused most of
it, it is now responding by suing the banks.

The agency that oversees mortgage markets is preparing to file suit against
more than a dozen big banks, accusing them of misrepresenting the quality of
mortgages they packaged and sold during the housing bubble, The New York Times
reported on Thursday. The Federal Housing Finance Agency, which oversees
mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, is expected to file suit against
Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank, among other
banks, the Times reported, citing three unidentified individuals briefed on the
matter. The suits stem from subpoenas the finance agency issued to banks last
year. They could be filed as early as Friday, the Times said, but if not filed
Friday it said the suits would come on Tuesday.

The government will argue the banks, which pooled the mortgages and sold
them as securities to investors, failed to perform due diligence required under
securities law and missed evidence that borrowers’ incomes were falsified or
inflated, the Times reported.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac lost more than $30 billion, due partly to their
purchases of mortgage-backed securities, when the housing bubble burst in late
2008. Those losses were covered mostly with taxpayers’ money.

The agency filed suit against UBS in July, seeking to recover at least $900
million for taxpayers, and the individuals told the Times the new suits would
be similar in scope. A spokesman for the Federal Housing Finance Agency was not
immediately available for comment. The Times said Bank of America, JP Morgan
and Goldman Sachs all declined comment. A Deutsche Bank spokesman told the
Times, “We can’t comment on a suit that we haven’t seen and hasn’t been
filed yet.”

The practice of subprime lending, wherein mortgage brokers lowered their
standards to entice homebuyers to take out large mortgages to buy more
expensive homes than they could afford, was a root cause of the mortgage market
implosion. News of the suit could have a negative impact on stocks of the banks
in question on Friday. JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Goldman Sachs are
traded on the New York Stock Exchange, while Deutsche Bank is traded on the
German exchange. S&P 500 stocks index futures were trading down 0.6 percent
in Asia. U.S. Treasury futures also ticked higher.

The Times report said investors fear that if banks are forced to pay out
billions for mortgages that defaulted, the suit could sap earnings for years
and contribute to further losses across the financial services industry.

How can the government build a bureaucracy to prevent the financial
collapse of the economic system and when it fails in doing its job, it sues the
very industry they previously caused to fail?

I have written a book
about Jack the Ripper called Holmes the Ripper. I made money with this work of
fiction as have many writers and authors over the years. Now a retired Scotland
Yard officer is at it.

A retired British murder squad detective has put together what he claims is
an image of Jack The Ripper – the unidentified serial killer who terrorized
London in the 1880s.

Trevor Marriott created an e-fit of the man he believes was the responsible
for the Ripper murders, a German merchant named Carl Feigenbaum, for a BBC
television program. Feigenbaum was a suspect at the time of the murders, and
reportedly told his lawyer that he had a “desire to kill and mutilate
every woman who falls in my way.” He was later convicted of killing his
landlady in Manhattan, and died in the electric chair in New York’s Sing Sing
prison.

No photographs of Feigenbaum exist, so the e-fit (an electronic artist’s
impression) was based on eyewitness descriptions. There are hundreds of
suspects who have been investigated by sleuths through the years, but no-one has
ever been able to conclusively prove the killer’s identity.

This is not the first time that experts have attempted to use modern
policing techniques to identify the Ripper. In 2006, Scotland Yard experts
created this e-fit of what they thought the Ripper would look like.

The person he identifies as the Ripper is one of the top three suspects. He
did not exactly go out on a limb here. The picture would seem to be even less
useful since no one is alive that would have been alive in the 1880s and could
recognize him. Since no pictures exist, any living family members would not
know what he looks like nor would they have any old photos gathering dust in a
family scrapbook.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think
about.
