BRUCE A. BRENNAN BLOG FROM THE WORLD AND MY MIND

The news as I see it and the views as I want them.

I have named every National Day we have, according to my research. We have others that double-up on days but that would be information overload. The National Days line is being retired.

Speaking of retirement, I am retiring this column. I have posted it daily for two years although I missed a few days, less than fifteen. It is time to move on.

I am working on three novels at the present time. I am going to devote more time to those projects. Once finished, my literary library of works written will include six novels. I have several other outlines in development. I will have more than enough to do without this daily blog.

I am still a practicing lawyer always on the lookout for new clients and business. Keep me in mind if you need legal help.

I will post an occasional column as the news and political climate dictate; at least that is my plan. Plans change as we weave through life, however.

I have enjoyed writing this blog. I usually feel good after unloading my heart with my cynical, sometimes controversial viewpoints. I, as most of us, recognize the problems this country faces. I have a few ideas to correct a few of the problems but not all. The problems are easier to see and talk about than they are to fix. Brighter men and women than me have tried and have failed but they have tried. I would enjoy a crack at politics but I carry too much baggage to try.

This country has to realize that in a democracy the majority rules. Those in the minority have to accept that premise. Not everyone can have everything. Our society must reward hard work, ingenuity, chance-taking, investment into new ideas and concepts and success. Our government, disguised as Robin Hood, must cease robbing the rich to give to the poor. It is high time we end government handouts regardless of the circumstances. Unemployment, Social Security and Medicare are not handouts; people worked and paid for these benefits.

I could go on but that would end up as another column than begs for a retort. It would defeat my retirement plan. I will just shut up.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.

BRUCE A. BRENNAN BLOG FROM THE WORLD AND MY MIND

The news as I see it and the views as I want them.

December 31 is … Unlucky Day

For all of you lucky recipients of Kindles, Nooks or other Ereaders be sure to order my books. I have three published to date with another work coming shortly. They are available at Amazon.com, Smashwords.com, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, Apple and many other ebook sites. Just do a name of author search or a search by book title. That information is below. Help a struggling author.

I am preparing this column before Christmas so anything that happened after December 15, 2011 was not considered. Here are 10 top stories of 2011 according to both impact and public out-pouring or emotion and interest. The death of the Korean leader did not make the list since I do not actually think his existence meant anything to the world. There are a line of nimrods ready to take his place in self-importance.

1) Japan earthquake and recovery. At 2:46 p.m. local time on March 11 Japan was rocked by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake centered off the coast of Honshu. More than 20,000 people were killed, tens of thousands more were left homeless, and Japan’s economy was rocked. Road and rail lines were damaged, water and sewage systems were disrupted and damaged, and electric lines were damaged. Also, several nuclear power stations damaged in the massive earthquake became a concern, including the Fukishima plant, which lost power and overheated. Radiation concerns necessitated an 18-mile evacuation and no-fly zone before the situation was brought under control.

2) Osama bin Laden killed. The mastermind of the 9/11 attacks on the U.S. managed to hide out for almost a decade despite the world’s most aggressive global manhunt and a $25 million reward for information leading to his capture or killing. On May 1, U.S. President Barack Obama decided to send a small U.S. force into a compound where Obama was believed to be hiding in Pakistan. Osama bin Laden was killed in the raid, and after DNA confirmation was buried at sea. Obama announced bin Laden’s killing in a televised address.

3) Steve Jobs dies. Apple co-founder and long-time CEO Steve Jobs died on October 5 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Hailed as one of the greatest innovators ever, Steve Jobs had recently retired as Apple’s longtime CEO, after serving two stints in the job, due to his illness. That was also one of the top stories of the year, but in the end, his departure from Apple was nothing compared to his death, which stunned and saddened the world.

4) Gabrielle Giffords shooting. While hosting a public event in her district, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ.) was shot in the head by a gunman by Jared Lee Loughner. Six people were killed, including a nine-year-old girl. News reports suggested that Giffords had died in the shooting initially, yet despite taking a bullet through the head, Giffords miraculously survived. She was released from the hospital in the summer and continues to recover.

5) Occupy Wall Street. Much like the Arab Spring, it all started with one Tweet. On a summer day in New York’s Lower Manhattan, an otherwise unrelated group of people gathered to begin a protest called “Occupy Wall Street.” It lasted for months, and is still going, leading some to call it a movement of those fed up with what they claim is the coddling of the rich and big corporations by the government leading to a hollowing out of society economically. The movement led to such mass-shared stories as Warren Buffett’s op-ed in The New York Times titled, “Stop Coddling the Super-Rich.”

6) The Penn State scandal. Speaking of the establishment, and the problems that can occur with it — few stories touched a nerve in 2011 more than the Penn State scandal involving former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky, charged with abusing young boys sexually. The scandal is still unfolding, and though Sandusky maintains his innocence it has already resulted in the firing of legendary football Joe Paterno. Regardless of how it unfolds in the end, the story speaks volumes to the taboos involving both sexual abuse victims and institutions that think they are bigger than the laws which govern and protect.

7) The London riots. It began with a peaceful protest in early August over the fatal shooting of a man named mark Duggan by police. Two days later, it was fully-involved rioting which last for four days throughout several London boroughs and districts of other towns in the UK. In all, several thousand were arrested, five people died and dozens of others were injured in the night-time riots, fueled by social media connectivity. Property damage from looting and rioting was extensive.

8) Moammar Gadhafi ousted, killed. The longtime leader of Libya, Moammar Gadhafi (Gaddafi) was killed on October 20, 2011 in cross-fire between rebels and loyalist fighters in Libya when the rebels in Gadhafi’s birthplace of Sirt attempted to take the ousted colonel, who was wounded after an attack, to an ambulance. Gadhafi had been hiding in a large sewer pipe in Sirt. The leader of Libya since 1969, his ouster was also one of the top stories of the year. Gadhafi was overthrown in a civil war.

9) Celebrity deaths — Ryan Dunn and Amy Winehouse. It seems demeaning to place celebrity deaths among top headlines of the year, but we don’t make the news, we just report it. Such is the world we live in, as the death of “Jackass” star Ryan Dunn was one of the most-shared stories of 2011, according to Facebook. He died in a car crash, while speeding and driving drunk in June. The next month singer Amy Winehouse made similar waves throughout the world when she died in London on July 23.

10) Hurricane Irene. The first hurricane to strike the U.S. since Ike in 2008, Irene was a menace to the East Coast in August, making a direct hit on New Jersey and New York, while knocking out power for almost 50 million people and flooding Vermont. Irene caused widespread destruction, killing 56 people and causing an estimated $10 billion in damage. For days in August, Irene virtually shut down the entire U.S. East Coast.

Be careful out there today. Try not to be unlucky. I will see and talk to you sometime; changes are in the works. Thanks for reading me; have a good year and life.

IT IS REAL CLOSE; ONE DAY, TWO AT THE MOST

Where is Bo Derek to help with the cleanup after she lobbied to ban horse slaughtering in the United States? She only helped stop the humane slaughter of horses not the laughter of horses. As usual, when the headlines fade the well known spokespeople also fade.

The remains of yet another slaughtered horse were found in a Southwest Miami-Dade canal on Monday, the latest in a string of grisly butcherings feeding South Florida’s illegal horse meat trade.

The dismembered carcass of a white horse was reported by a ranch owner who spotted it in a canal near Southwest 136th Street and 205th Avenue around 2 p.m. Monday, according to the Miami-Dade police report. Responding officers observed the animal’s head, intestines, and skin floating in the canal.

According to the police report, investigators believe the horse was slaughtered in another location and dumped in the canal, and a crime lab unit processed what appeared to be dried blood with fingerprints along a guard rail surrounding the canal.

Much of the illegal horse meat trade is tied to Miami-Dade’s infamous C-9 Basin, a rural agricultural zone west of the Turnpike and widely considered to be one of the most active horse slaughter locations in the world.

The record 21 carcasses found dumped in 2009 helped prompt a massive task force raid in the basin, but a tangle of laws and shared jurisdiction have hampered efforts to fully eradicate illegal slaughter. Though the U.S. Department of Agriculture keeps tabs on licensed slaughterhouses (the last of which was operational in Illinois in 2007), the prosecution of their unlicensed kin falls to multiple jurisdictions, and often through the cracks.

“There’s a big, large demand for the meat, and not just in Miami-Dade and South Florida but all of Florida,” activist Richard Couto of the Animal Rescue Mission told NBCMiami in October, after a mare was stabbed through the heart and butchered alive. “The meat is going between $7-40 per pound in our state. It’s a high commodity item, and when there’s a demand there’s gonna be supply…

“This has been going on in Miami-Dade county for 30, 40, 50 years, and those days need to be over and done with.”

DeKalb County, Illinois could use the jobs to legally and humanely slaughter horses since it has a slaughter house designed for just that; but it was forced to close due to the interjection of nonlocals who told all the locals they were smarter than the citizens who live in DeKalb, IL.

THE END OF THE YEAR IS ALMOST UPON US.

Now, Jimmy Hoffa is under the GM Headquarters building in Detroit, Michigan. If you’re looking for the bones of Teamsters leader Jimmy Hoffa, you may need look no further than the General Motors headquarters. According to a new book by Hoffa’s former driver and mob goon Marvin Elkind, Hoffa’s corpse rests below the cement foundation of the Renaissance Center. Elkind co-wrote Weasel: A Double Life in the Mob with a Canadian journalist, and according to one passage, reported mob boss Anthony Giacalone told Teamsters delegates to “Say good morning to Jimmy Hoffa, boys,” as he nodded to the foundation of the Renaissance Center during a conference in Detroit in 1985.

Thin evidence? Sure, but the news is just as credible as any of the other theories concerning Hoffa’s disappearance. From a burial under the end zone of the old Giants Stadium in New Jersey to cremation at a Hamtramck waste disposal facility, plenty of urban legends surround the union leader’s vanishing act. Something tells us no one’s going to be ripping up the floor boards at the RenCenter looking for musty bones anytime soon, however.

The author did not have the fortitude to print or report this information while Nixon was in power or alive. It is real easy to kick a dead man with accusations that will obviously be contested or ignored by the family.

Watergate was only one of several scandalous aspects of former President Richard Nixon’s life, according to a new book by a former White House correspondent.

Nixon’s Darkest Secrets: The Inside Story of America’s Most Troubled President by Don Fulsom (Thomas Dunne Books, $25.99), former correspondent for United Press International, makes several eye-catching accusations, including that the former president had a gay affair with Charles “Bebe” Rebozo, a banker apparently with ties to the mob.

The allegation is especially noteworthy because, as gay news website Queerty reports, Nixon was known to have made homophobic remarks. From Queerty: When a close aide to President Johnson was caught having sex with a former sailor in a YMCA bathroom, Nixon called the man “ill,” and added that such people “cannot be in places of high trust.”

The new book also alleges that Nixon beat his wife and that his aides referred to him as “our drunk.” Neither of these allegations is new or supported by significant sources.

The Daily Mail reports that Nixon’s alleged secret lover also had a shady history of his own. According to the Mail, the FBI claims Rebozo had ties to mob bosses Santo Trafficante and Alfred ‘Big Al’ Polizzi. He also ran a bank that, a former mobster claims, was used to launder money.

The book’s press release says that Fulsom used interviews with former White House staffers and ex-members of Congress, as well as government documents, to support his claims.

The Nixon Foundation did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The book’s author Fulsom covered the presidencies of Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Clinton during his career as a journalist. The book goes on sale at the end of January.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.

JUST A FEW DAYS LEFT!

Just don’t play Solitaire ‘til dawn with a deck of fifty-one; I won’t tell you you have nothing to do!

No witches were burnt at the stake as a result of the Salem, MA which took place around 1692.

The Salem witch trials of 1692 were protracted, grueling affairs, and by the time they were concluded in October of that year, 150 people had been arrested, of whom 31 were tried and 20 were put to death. But the present-day assumptions about the trials are fraught with misconceptions, and much of what is commonly believed to have transpired in that Massachusetts port town simply never happened. For one thing, there is no proof that bona fide witches and witchcraft even existed. Rather, what was attacked then as a rash of witchcraft would surely in a later time have been medically diagnosed as mass hysteria. It is true that children in Salem slaughtered pigs, that women made advances to their neighbors’ husbands, and that ministers behaved with decidedly unministerial abandon, but these were the acts of sick people, not demons. And the splenetic rage against witches which caught up many professedly pious townspeople was part of this mass hysteria. Among the first of the Salem “witch bitches” were the young daughters of Rev. Samuel Parris and their friends, who fell under the devil’s sway and behaved immorally after listening evening after evening to blasphemies and lurid stories of life in the West Indies told them by Tituba, the family slave. Soon several of the girls’ impressionable young friends became similarly “possessed,” and thus the epidemic spread.

Another misconception is that the convicted witches were burned at the stake. In Salem and elsewhere, hanging was the standard method of execution, although one victim was crushed to death under heavy stones. And witchcraft was not exclusively the work of women. Six of the 31 witches tried and condemned were men.

Some people believe that only in Salem were witches tried and punished. Not so. There are records of witch-hunts in nearby Andover, Mass., and in Maine. New England minister Cotton Mather had described the anguished writhing of “possessed” children in Boston four years earlier: “They would have their mouths opened so wide that their jaws went out of joint, and they would at once clap together again with a force like that of a strong spring-lock. The same would happen to their shoulder blades, and their elbows, and hand wrists, and several of their joints. They would at times lie in a benumbed condition and be drawn together like those who are tied neck and heels, and presently be stretched out, yea, drawn backwards to such an extent that it was feared the very skin of their bellies would have cracked.”

While it is widely believed that during the height of the Salem witchcraft mania one could have one’s enemies tried and hanged for witchery simply by innuendo, this was not always so. Many well-seated members of Salem society were accused of witchcraft and set free nonetheless. In fact the mother-in-law of Salem’s Judge Jonathan Corwin was charged repeatedly with demonic acts, but never even appeared in court.

One final surprising note: The convictions of the Salem witches did not stick. On Oct. 17, 1711, an Order of Compensation reversed the attainders of 22 of the 31 convicted in Salem. The remaining nine, who had no surviving friends or relatives to plead their reinstatement, had to wait until 1957, when the state of Massachusetts finally reversed the convictions of all those not covered by the 1711 act.

December 27 is … National Fruitcake Day

For all of you lucky recipients of Kindles, Nooks or other Ereaders be sure to order my books. I have three published to date with another work coming shortly. They are available at Amazon.com, Smashwords.com, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, Apple and many other ebook sites. Just do a name of author search or a search by book title. That information is below. Better late than never, but one was not born every minute according to P. T. Barnum. He must have liked fruitcake. P. T. Barnum is most often associated with the circus sideshow and the display of freaks. While this is true, he is also the founding force behind one of America’s most famous circuses: Barnum & Bailey Circus. Barnum is also affiliated with the famous quote “There’s a sucker born every minute.” History, unfortunately, has misdirected this quotation. Barnum never did say it. Actually, it was said by his competitor.

Here’s the incredible story. From 1866 until 1868 Mr. George Hull, of Binghamton, New York studied archeology and paleontology. Over this period of time Hull contemplated how to pull off a hoax. It seems that many an evangelist at the time had been preaching that there were giants in the earth. In June of 1868 Hull traveled back to Fort Dodge, Iowa where there was a gypsum quarry he had recalled seeing two years earlier. Even then, he had noticed that the dark blue streaks running through the soft lime rock resembled human veins. Realizing its appearance was tailor-made for his hoax and it was easy to carve, Hull hired a group of quarry workers to cut off a slab measuring twelve feet long, four feet wide and two feet thick.

In November, Hull had his gypsum wrapped in canvas and hoisted onto a wagon. Since the nearest railroad was forty miles away, it proved to be a long, difficult job. He then had the slab of gypsum shipped by rail to Chicago where he had hired a stone cutter named Edward Burghardt to carve a giant. Burghardt and his two assistants, were sworn to secrecy and agreed to work on the piece in a secluded barn during their off hours and Sundays. The instructions were to carve the giant as if it had died in great pain, and the final result was an eerie figure, slightly twisted in apparent agony, with his right hand clutching his stomach. All of the details were there; toenails, fingernails, nostrils, sex organs and so forth. Even a needlepoint mallet was used to add authentic-looking skin pores. When the carving was done, sulfuric acid and ink were used, possibly smudged like printer ink, to make the figure look aged.

The giant finished, Hull then had the figure shipped by rail to the farm of William Newell, his cousin, located near the town of Cardiff, New York. In the dead of night, Hull, Newell and his oldest son buried the giant between the barn and house. They were instructed to say nothing about it and that Hull would let them know in about a year of what the next stage was.

Luckily, about six months later, on another farm near the Newell’s, some million year-old fossil bones were dug up. Newspapers around the country reported the finding. Hull was filled with glee in reading the accounts. True to his word, one year after burying the giant, Hull sent word to his cousin on October 15, 1869, to start the next stage of the hoax. Newell hired two laborers to dig a new well near his home. Newell directed them to the exact spot he wanted the well dug and went back into the house to wait — anxiously. Sure enough, well into the day, the two laborers rushed up to the house to announce their discovery: a giant turned to stone! The laborers and both Newells carefully excavated the area surrounding the giant.

News of this amazing discovery spread throughout the valley and soon wagon loads of neighbors streamed into Newell’s farm to see the giant. By mid-afternoon, Newell erected a tent around the “grave” and started charging 25 cent admission. Two days later, the Syracuse Journal (New York) printed an article about the discovery. Being greedy, Newell raised the price to 50 cents, and a stage coach company made four round trips a day from Syracuse to the Newell farm. Thousands came every day. Among the visitors were clergymen, college professors and distinguished scientists. Before long, the expert’s opinions split into two theories; one side claimed it was a true fossilized human giant and the other side pronounced it an authentic ancient statue. No one asserted that it was a fake!

About ten days after the discovery, and about the time the Cardiff Giant, as the papers had named it, started receiving national attention, Hull sold two-thirds interest in the giant for $30,000 to a five-man syndicate in Syracuse, the head of which was a banker named David Hannum. The syndicate moved the giant to an exhibition hall in Syracuse and raised the admission price to a dollar a head. Unknown to them, P. T. Barnum sent an agent to see the giant and make an assessment. The particular Sunday the representative saw the giant, the crowds were abnormally large — about 3,000 people. The agent wired the news back to Barnum and Barnum instructed him to make an offer of $50,000 to buy it. Hannum turned his offer down.

The Cardiff Giant was the most talked about exhibit in the nation. Barnum wanted the giant to display himself while the attraction was still a hot topic of the day. Rather than upping his offer, Barnum hired a crew of workers to carve a giant of his own. Within a short time, Barnum unveiled HIS giant and proclaimed that Hannum had sold Barnum the original giant and that Hannum was now displaying a fake! Thousands of people flocked to see Barnum’s giant. Many newspapers carried the version that Barnum had given them; that is, Hannum’s giant was a fake and Barnum’s was authentic. It is at this point that Hannum — NOT BARNUM — was quoted as saying “There’s a sucker born every minute.” Hannum, still under the impression that HIS giant was authentic, was referring to the thousands of “fools” that paid money to see Barnum’s fake and not his authentic one.

Hannum brought a lawsuit against Barnum for calling his giant a fake. When it came to trial, Hull stepped forward and confessed that the Cardiff Giant was a hoax and the entire story. The judge ruled that Barnum could not be sued for calling Hannum’s giant a fake since it was a fake after all. Thereafter, Hannum’s name was lost to history while Barnum was left with the misplaced stigma of being the one to say “There’s a sucker born every minute.”

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.

BRUCE A. BRENNAN BLOG FROM THE WORLD AND MY MIND

The news as I see it and the views as I want them.

December 26 is … National Whiners Day

I hope everyone had a fun and blessed Christmas party with their family, friends and loved ones. Happy New Year.

Do you know what a Jewish woman’s favorite Whine is?

“What do you mean we ain’t going to Miami?”

Newt cannot even run in his home state. Paybacks are a bitch. After years of stepping on toes and fingers as he climbed over them up the political ladder, Newt is finding out those beneath him at one point, the ones that did not run and hide for a decade with their tails between their legs and their bank accounts open, are now the ones in power who have a long memory.

THE TIME IS DRAWING TO A CLOSE!

I am not a big NBA fan but this year, the season started just in time for Chicago sport fans. The Bulls were losing nearly the entire second half after a close first half in the nationally televised game. Derrick Rose was able to hit a fall away, finger-tip twenty footer under heavy defensive pressure to give the Bulls the lead with less than five seconds to go. The lead held up and the Bulls won to start the season at 1-0.

Unfortunately, another Chicago team followed in another nationally televised game. The Bears played the superior Packers in Green Bay. Save for the opening drive of the game, the Bears played well for the first 25 minutes of the game. Then, the Packers took over, convincingly defeating the Bears in every aspect of the game. It was the type of game I never thought the Bears had a shot at winning no matter how close they kept the score.

The Bears have one more game to play but it is meaningless. The Bulls have 65 more games to play; most will be meaningless until April. It is a traditional way to start the New Year, out with the bad, forget last year. It is time to start 2012 fresh with a new outlook and renewed hope.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.

BRUCE A. BRENNAN BLOG FROM THE WORLD AND MY MIND

The news as I see it and the views as I want them.

Today is Thank You GOD Day

For all of you lucky recipients of Kindles, Nooks or other Ereaders be sure to order my books. I have three published to date with another work coming shortly. This is from the New York Sun, September 21, 1897. The editorial is unsigned but it was written by Francis Pharcellus Church.

I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, “If you read what Harley Hahn has written, it’s so.”

Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus?

— Virginia O’Hanlon

Virginia, your little friends are right, but they don’t understand what they are saying, and that is often worse than being wrong.

They have been affected by the shallowness of a shallow age. They believe because they are told. They think that nothing exists which cannot be grasped by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be adult’s or children’s, are different. In this great universe of ours, men and women are mere insects, ants, but our intellect can be boundless as compared to the limited world about us, an intellect that can thirst for an enduring quest for intelligence and a grasping of such truth and knowledge as one is capable of understanding.

No, Virginia, once you reach the age of questioning and reason, there is no Santa Claus. But your need for him is replaced by your needs for love and generosity and devotion, and, to the extent that these gifts abound, they give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! How dreary would be the world if it had only Santa Claus to express its ideal of holiday spirit! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias (or Harleys). Our childlike faith would never mature and not even poetry or romance could make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except that which is superficial in sense and sight. The external light with which understanding and compassion fills the world would be extinguished.

Believe in Santa Claus? You might as well believe in fairies. You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if you did see a Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? People believe they see many things, but that is no sign that there is really is a Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that both children and adults can teach themselves to understand, appreciate and explain to others. Did you ever think you saw fairies dancing on the lawn? Perhaps you may, but that’s no proof that they exist. Nobody can depend wholly on imagination to conceive of all the wonders there are seeable in the world.

You tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering much of our world, a veil which requires the united strength of all the strongest, wisest, most determined men and women that ever lived to tear it apart. Neither faith nor poetry nor love nor romance can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. It requires learning, experience and much purposeful thought. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing more real and abiding than that which we come to understand and appreciate through our own efforts.

A real Santa Claus? Thank goodness children mature and replace their faith in a simple imaginary being with a genuine understanding of the human spirit and its potential for greatness — a greatness that can live forever and ever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, 10 times 10,000 years from now, the kindness, generosity and wisdom of fathers, mothers, grandparents and friends will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU AND YOURS

GOD BLESS AMERICA AND EVERYONE OF US

December 24 is … National Egg Nog Day

I have completed my column for Christmas Day so my prose will appear today. Enjoy!

I love Christmas Day;

I love the entire Holiday Season;

It is the time to pray;

Everyone has fun for an obvious reason;

The Christ Child has been born;

It is written He was born in a stable;

The bedding He was wrapped in was worn;

To all Christians, this is not just a fable;

This is the best time of the year;

The weather can be annoying;

Family and friends gather for cheer;

Most people are quite cloying;

I love my family all the year;

The season is made bright by the addition of decorations;

This special time makes that so very clear;

The Yule time is so full of temptations;

It is the time to celebrate;

With mistletoe, wreaths, ornaments, trees and a one horse open sleigh;

It is not the time to alienate but rather it is time to accentuate;

Be thankful, be cheerful; but most of all pray;

Merry Christmas to my wife, Lucas, Ross and Hannah;

Happy Holidays to Joanne and Heather, the new members of our clan;

Hello Kris Kringle; I sure like Santa;

Not yet but grandkids could be part of next year’s plan.

Merry Christmas to the rest of my family and friends;

As I write out of sight;

For the slights to my friends I make amends;

Please have a good night.

Just a couple of thoughts I had and you should too or at least think about.
